Circus tent is a portal to the past/future
That donkey with a pretend horn is actually a real unicorn in disguise under a spell
The tall man on stilts isn't actually wearing stilts
The 'freak show' tent is just full of visiting aliens doing their tourist thing, voluntarily with the circus for three city stops only, then they have to go home.
