Dunn 9/11 happened before we invaded Iraq.
In the first gulf war in the early 90's all we did was kick Iraq out of Kuwait after they invaded.
We did not invade or occupy Iraq at all.

Saddam would have killed more people, not "many more millions" as Pals claims, but not an insignificant amount either.
On the flip side, ISIS would not have been able to easily rout the Iraqi army and claim their weapons. They also would not have access to Iraqi oil fields.
Finally, the US would have saved trillions in the form of upfront and legacy costs of the Iraq War, and the Middle East would be more stable.

It would still be on, but not at this level. The vacuum created by the upset of balance of control in the area--Saddam was secular, keeping both sides apart, and when he was deposed the Sunnis and Shia resumed their civil war in earnest--was filled by al Qaeda and later ISIS.
The US really helped this one along by creating a "government" run by Nouri al-Maliki that continously and specifically excludes the Sunnis, and treats them very badly.
ISIS can't survive without popular support. It's easy to recruit people who feel they are being wronged.

Considering it started before we decided to call it the war on terror, it would look the same.

Isis exists because of the constant, destabilizing meddling in that region by the u.s. and europe. We fuct it up, now we have to help clean it up. Bombs do not clean it up. We must support stable governments over there even if we don't love them.
