Chemistry Question... I am stuck on this... I don t know if I'm on the right track. PLEASE HELP? My teacher doesn't lecture & I'm confused?

A 1.000 g sample of solid residue is being analyzed for Barium. The sample is dissolved and Sodium Sulfate is added. The insoluble Barium Sulfate product that is produced is dried, and a total of 54.9 mg of BaSO4 is collected. What is the mass percent of Ba that was present in the ORIGINAL sample (not the BaSO4 product)-- the original solid residue that contained Ba?

    Molar mass of BaSO4 is 233.39 g/mol

    molar mass Ba = 137.33 g/mol

    Mass Ba 2+ in 54.9mg BaSO4 = 137.33/233.39*54.9 = 32.3mg

    % Ba2+ in original 1.000g = 1000.0mg sample = 32.3/1000*100 = 3.23% Ba2+ in original sample.
