Parents, how much would you be willing to pay a very experienced babysitter, per hour, per kid?

I've been babysitting for about 6 years now, and I've never had a set price. Always just whatever the parent wants to give me. I've been thinking about establishing a set price because I started watching a very wealthy family who I feel like short me on payment. I have never been "in it for the money" but sometimes watching 5 kids for 6 hours and getting $30 makes me feel as if I deserve more.

I'm certified in CPR and first aid, b/c of life guarding. On top of babysitting for 6 years I've also worked at a summer day camp with 106 kids. I recently went to Disney with a family of 5 that I also watch, and babysat the kids there. I also clean the house while they are gone, though I do not expect payment for that.

So, back to my question, how much would you be willing to pay an experienced sitter?

You have all that training. Depending how old you are, I say 8-10$ the hour. Per extra kid you charge an extra dollar. If you take a trip with them and they're not paying your trip, don't be afraid to charge a bit extra. You're a babysitter, but you sometimes seem to be a nanny with the parents around.. I'm a babysitter and I say charge what you think is right, but keep in mind that you're working, you took a lot of courses and you probably do a great job. Charge for what you deserve, and sometimes you can get a tip :) Talk to the family and compare your expected hourly wage. Good luck!

Babysitting rates vary a lot by place, so you should probably look into what they are where you live. The cheapest babysitter I have ever had was $10/hour and that was over a decade ago. Honestly, if I interviewed a babysitter who was willing to take $5/hour, I d be concerned about why they were so cheap. I think you should be being paid more, but I also think you should check local rates.

It would sort of depend on the ages of the kids. Slightly older ones require little more than you being there. Younger ones require more attention....until bedtime. Talk to the family....list your qualifications and that with that many kids you need to be paid more....maybe $10 - $15 a hour. Also expect to not be called back to sit again.

i paid my experienced adult sitter $16/hr for four kids. i would pay an experienced teenaged babysitter somewhat less, but even my not-very-experienced teenager makes $10/hr.

(*but i live in a high-income town. obviously people can only afford to pay what they can afford to pay, and many families would simply not go out if babysitting reached $16/hr.)
