Start by learning how to write a novel that deserves to be published. That will take you anywhere from 1 to 50 years if you've never done it before. The rest can wait.

As for software, most writers I've spoken to about the subject use Microsoft Word, mainly because it's what everyone else uses. If you don't have it, or can't afford it, or don't think it's worth the money, good free alternatives are OpenOffice and LibreOffice. A few writers swear by Scrivener, but I've yet to work out what all the fuss is about there.

A 'good' story always depends on the same elements, it doesn't matter what genre you're writing in. You need to do your basic research to learn how to write. This will take you quite a while, so the rest of your question can wait a few years.

Manuscript submissions are standard - they don't go by words per page. you need specific margins, double spaced, go halfway down on the start of each chapter page, your name and the book name in the upper right corner and page number at the bottom. That's all outlined in the Writers Market 2016. HOW to publish depends on when you have your finished publication worthy manuscript ready. Don't jump the gun on this. WRITE your story first. Have it read by several beta readers, rewrite to fix the issues (at least 4 rewrites), once you fix all the issues.

Novels need to have a plot, believable characters, and a good story line. The story can be absurd - Alice in Wonderland for example - and comedy can break all the rules, but in general you want a story that describes conflict and its resolution, hopefully in an original way.

But story telling isn't enough, style is also important. The other things, the technical details, can be gotten from individual publishers, as formatting varies from one to the other. Words per page is not a concern.

Nothing makes a "good" dystopian novel.

That is why teachers have to keep requiring you to read them. Nobody would do so otherwise.

The format is not important. What is important is that you write your story.

Words per page are not important.

    The story is.

Douglas Adams once wrote a book with only one sentence for the first few chapters.

Issac Asimov once wrote a book with the chapters in seemingly random order.

Of course, they were accomplished writers who proved they had talent and sale-ability.

You are focused on the wrong things and you are doing so as an excuse NOT to write.

    Get back to work.

OK, here's what you do. You read or re-read "Brave New World," "We," and "1984." Read them very carefully and pay attention to what they have in common and what's unique about each one. Then move on to more recent dystopian novels. Study them carefully. Go to the library and get a lot of books and articles by professional literary scholars and critics about them. Read those.

And nobody gives a fcuk what kind of "book typing software" or "words per page" you use.

WikiHow, would be the best place to check that out and if you need a good security app you need to have LEO Privacy Guard 3.0.
