Cast salt into a mold to make stone?

I want to make a custom Himalayan salt lamp, and was wondering if I can heat salt water, let the water evaporate, and it will be as hard as those out there or not. Reason I don t just want to buy is because I want to gradient the color from red, to pink to white salt in layers. Can it be done?

My teacher in grade school did this once as a science experiment to show us that saltwater was full of salt.

She mixed salt and water into a pan then let it boil til the water evaporated. All that was left at the end was solid salt residue stuck to the sides of the pot.

Bad news for you, she gave all of us kids a chance to scrape it off with our fingernails. It just turned back into granulated salt.

I think by doing it the way you plan the salt block would be weak and granular.

Salt mined for various purposes has been compressed for many many years. Much like a lump of carbon is compressed to make a hard diamond. (gone are the days when salt is as valuable as a gem)

I think you can mix salt and flour to make a clay.
