Detailed Magic the Gathering question?

So I know there's a rule that says you can only have 1 legendary creature on the battlefield of the same name at a time. Also applies to planeswalkers too, but I digress. Anyway I'm wondering about this scenario. I got one of the 2 creatures out, let's say Atarka, World Render, legendary creature from Fate Reforged, I want to put out Dragonlord Atarka, legendary creature from Dragons of Tarkir. Can this be done? Rather is this allowed?

    Yes it is allowed.

The 'Legend Rule' only looks at the permanent's name. So that means it's fine to have two cards in play with different names, even though they are effectively the same individual. So it is valid to have Atarka, World Render and Dragonlord Atarka in play, as they have different names.

The Planeswalker uniqueness rule is different, as it looks at the Planeswalker's type, not name. So you could not have both Jace - Mind Sculptor and Jace - Architect of Thought in play as they are both 'Planeswalker - Jace'.

Sure. You can have as many legendary creatures out as you want, as long as they aren't the same creature
