What is the variable throttle throw switch called?

Turning a drill into a lathe, and want to replace the trigger witch with a throttle like switch like they have on boats or planes. Not sure what it is called, so having trouble finding a 110v ac option.

    You may be thinking rheostat, but that will likely make the motor overheat, you should use a solid state speed controller http://amzn.to/1SNhdsp

    Most motors on drills are of the universal type. This means they can be varied over a limited range with a triac speed controller which was a popular electronics project about 40 years ago. An issue to watch is the speed of the motors cooling fan so a 2 speed drill would be advisable.
