There's a middle-aged man I see on the train to work sometimes who listens to a CD walkman. I still have one but mine stays at home.

I do have a portable CD player, I also have an AM/FM Walkman and an MP3 player. I take the one I want with me. The trouble with portable CD players is they are subject to skip when jostled. They work great on the train, not very good on the bike or when walking.

I have one from the olden days that has skip protection. But the batteries don't last long. 2 AA Duracells last long enough to play 2 CDs. Or more often one CD played twice because I only went out with the CD in the player itself.

No. But I do use my Walkman for vinyl. It is pretty big, but nothing sound quite as good as vinyl
