They are true believers in the big lie. If you are in a position of power and tell a big enough lie and keep repeating it. People will start to believe because they just can't wrap their heads around anyone telling that big and obvious a lie. Especially people in power.

I think it had more to do with finding out the EPA knows about 100's of situations like this across the country yet haven't done anything about it.

That did not stop the morons in the case of Flint, Michigan. They immediately switched to blaming the governor.
