Why is my school asking to complete a verification income tax information for student tax filers, etc? For financial aid.?

I was unemployed last year, had no income; I'm classified as dependent and I gave them my parents tax return papers together with an IRS transcript... Now they're asking to fill this verification paperwork and to complete a 1099 form; why do they do that? Isn't the IRS transcript enough proof of the income my parents had last year? My last school didn't ask for all this crap, they just wanted a copy of my parents tax returns and that was it.

they might be asking you to complete a W-9 but there is no way they are asking you to complete a 1099, they might issue you one after you have provided some kind of services for them

if you gave them a transcript from your parents' tax return that is what is required for financial aid, a 1099 involves you working for them

Are you sure they are asking for paperwork related to a 1099 form?

1099 forms are for the payment of money. You are asking for money.

You can follow the rules of this school or you will be denied any aid. There are other people that will be willing to provide the appropriate paperwork.

The IRS transcript is not proof at all of the income your parents had last year. It is proof only of what your parents told the IRS they had. But your parents could have lied to the IRS, and the transcript doesn't prove what they really had.

Use form 4506-T to request a verification of non-filing letter for *you.*

They want it to prove YOU had no income.
