Why are inner city day care students more obedient toward Black teachers than toward White teachers?

Probably because they feel more comfortable with someone who they can relate to. Most of the white teachers who go to the "inner city" areas to teach don't know how to connect with their students as just regular kids and tend to treat them as though they're specimens of another species. Whether it's intentional or not, children are able to tell when someone is uncomfortable with them and that, in turn, makes them uncomfortable. Treat the kids like you would any other children and they'll warm up to you. That goes for any school system--"inner city" or not.
Source(s): I've never lived in what is classified by white people as an "inner city," but I do understand how it feels to have a teacher treat you like a freakish anomaly rather than a regular human being. I hope that your question is legitimate and earnest. - suhwahaksaengLv 75 years ago
Call me racist if you will, but I have a job in an inner city day care center, and the kids run all over us White teachers. And the director is always harping at us because of it.
