Why did the Nets trade Thaddeus Young?

I understand why they traded Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, those guys were past their prime and expensive. But Thaddeus Young is in his prime and not that expensive and is a good player. Shouldn't they try to build around him and Brook Lopez? Does this mean they are going to trade Brook Lopez too?

To rebuild of course. I think they could've kept him still and gotten a better draft pick for him but I think Young was best trade asset for them and they feel they could move on from hin. Underrated player but I don't think he would made a huge difference. Varies Leveret hopefully can turn into a star cause he looks like a talented guard.

They are rebuilding. Young just had his best personal season, averaging 15 points and 9 rebounds. But the Nets were only 21-52 in games Young played. I'm not saying it was his fault. The team was bad. But he isn't a difference maker that a team can build around. So they got rid of his contract and got younger. I always say the assets a team can have are players, picks, and cap space. They just traded 1 asset for 2 (cap space and a first round pick). And the player they let go was not going to be a main piece on a good team.
