Does anyone have any interest in actually living aboard and cruising anymore?

I do, and Capt. John, I need your precious advice. By an interesting twist of circumstances, I will soon be the owner of a 1976 Trojan F-36 (same company that builds Bertram yachts) in great condition overall, Twin 330hp Chrysler 440 CID gas engines, and all the bells ans whistles I have been looking for in a live-aboard. Except I was looking for a sailboat. But the Trojan is practically free, I just need to cover some unpaid marina fees, a good hull cleaning and she s mine. Based out of Vancouver Island, we can probably do some coastal cruising down the Pacific coast and maybe further to Central and South America. I have no clue if this is feasible with a boat like this. But that was my plans, on a sailboat. A power boat, however, was never in my plans, but her price is right. I d honestly prefer a nice sailboat as a live-aboard to do some coastal cruising and perhaps a little bit of offshore cruising.

So, should I just keep the Trojan to live aboard and do a little cruising? How far down the Pacific coast do you think this boat could take me ? What about getting to the other side through Panama? Or should I just sell it and get a sailboat? Considering the cost of gas, I m tempted to sell it ($40-50K?), but I m not sure I could get a good live-aboard sailboat for the same price.

Yes!!! It s part of my retirement plans. I ve lived aboard many vessels over the years, and I can t wait to get back to it. I miss the days I waking up in a new port or anchorage. Isn t that what windows are for? I could care less about the windows in my apartment now, for I see the same things every day. Never changing, and boring. Why do you think landlubbers are alway repainting and remodeling their homes? People want change of scenery.

Where will I go when I retire? Around the world (again) of course! I ve been around one and a half times. Now I want to see what s changed over the years. Quite a bit from what I ve seen online. It s going to look like a new planet to me. So yes, I do have a big interest of living aboard and cruising more than I have ever thought. :-)

    I already live abroad!

I'd love to cruise up the Inside Passage, or spend time on the Great Lakes. But that is beyond my means unfortunately. Closer to home, I would love to travel around the inland waterways of Ireland.
