Why are there more 3-way trades in the NBA than in the NHL, MLB, or NFL?

All those sports leagues have similar issues, including salary caps. While I can't think of any 3-way trades in the other leagues, it's fairly common in the NBA.

Any thoughts as to why?

The NFL and NHL have hard salary caps. Teams are not allowed to exceed the cap for any reason. MLB doesn't have a salary cap, just a luxury tax. The NBA is unique in that it has a soft salary cap. Teams are allowed to exceed the cap for various reasons. Teams that are over the cap are restricted in the trades they can make. If a team over the cap trades away two players whose total contract value is $30 million a year, then they must get back approximately the same amount in contract value. That adds an extra layer of complications, not only must the teams agree to the trade from a personnel standpoint, but the salary values have to match up as well. Sometimes to make all that work, a third team needs to become involved.
