Neighbors sprinkles are ruining my paint job..?
I have a brand new 2016 VW and my neighbors sprinkler system, that uses hard water, is ruining my paint job. I park about two-four feet away from her yard in MY driveway but the sprinklers still spray into my yard and onto my car. Half my driveway is a dark burnt orange from her sprinklers. My white car has really bad orange streaks down it and they won t really come off. I ve had to buy super expensive things to remove it and it s still there. I have to put out money because of her carelessness. Now before you judge, my neighbors are assholes and going to them to politely ask them to fix it will not only be a waste of time, but it ll piss them off and I m worried of intentional sabotage. Is there something I can do? They have sprayed about 5 feet into my driveway, my car, and even the road. It makes my driveway unappealing, ruins my paint job, and is seriously annoying. Not to mention so waters at least four times, but apparently only on her water days. What can I do? Besides go talk to her because they aren t the kind of people to talk to. If you re going to answer this question, do not be rude or tell me to go speak to them when I ve clearly stated that isn t an option. Thank you.

Timbo (who suggests legal action), and others who suggest erecting a fence have, in my opinion, the best suggestions. Talk to a lawyer about what's happening. If you live in an area with a Home Owners Association, you may complain there.
If not, you can always hit 'em where it hurt, even women, I'm talking about the pocketbook. Take pictures, video, any documenting evidence of the damage to your property. Take evidence as to how that damage is occuring (video the sprinklers). Pay for repairs to vehicles and property, save receipts. Get an a written opinion from the repair men, and ask if the damage could have come from said sprinklers. File suit in small claims, you could do this yourself, without paying for lawyer. When the neighbor's wallet takes a hit, they may make adjustments to their watering habits. Be warned, while you are within your rights to collect for damages, the neighbors may consider this to be a hostile act.
Last, build a fence. If you live in an area with a Home Owners Association, you may need permission from them, or possibly from the city. Get permission before building the fence.

Decades ago, we had a neighbor that had some "perfect lawn syndrome" on his tiny, selfish brain. He would suddenly put his sprinkler out and it would oversprinkle past his lawn, past our driveway and even onto our lawn! Our cars on our driveway with the windows open on a hot summer day meant nothing. He sprayed all of our cars, all the time, and soaked the interiors regularly. Nothing seemed to dissuade him from doing it.
Numerous times I moved his sprinkler so that it watered his house or front door. He never parked his own car where he was sprinkling.
It just went on until he died. We tried talking to him, but he wouldn't acknowledge any wrongdoing.
Even we had water rationing some times and he watered against that.
So I really don't know what to tell you. Some people are aliens (extraterrestrials). Their insectlike programming prevails.
In our governmental structure, there is a city attorney. Go have a conversation with him/her and ask for help.

Well dear Kelsey I sense in you a winning kind of litigious zeal. You could take her to small claims court. With photos of your damage etc. Then she would also have to rectify it for the future. But you might have to speak to the neighbors--but with an official mission, not a social visit.
What she most likely needs is new plumbing.
But as bad neighbors go you have worse things to complain about than the sprinklers. It is just defective equipment, not malice, there.

Well, if a fence isn't an option and they don't want to listen to reason, you can take them to small claims court. Any system on their part that is causing you harm can be an issue in a court of law. BUT be sure that you can prove that you tried to reason with them first. And when you go to court, have plenty of pictures to prove your case. Also, if others have been harmed by their watering system, have them accompany you as your witnesses. Be sure to take all recipes for things you have had to purchase to clean up their mess. You will have to pay a court fee of about $100 dollars, but if you win your case, the defendants will have to pay that too! Good luck.

Assuming you are parking as far from the spray already I won't suggest that. Irrigation well water is corrosive and generally loaded with various minerals and whatever. You can either cover your car while it is parked there or try a really good wax job and keep applying it regularly. My neighbors sprinklers spray well into my yard too but my cars are safely away from them. Curiously his cars get get hit but stay pretty good looking. One is white also.

That's terrible!! How inconsiderate of the neighbor!! I believe that their water should not be going anywhere on your property. Maybe there are some city by-laws that can help you out with this. Call the city and ask!
In the meantime, although it is totally unfair and a hassle, look into a car cover. Get a car cover and always cover your car or on the days she waters. Sucks, but just thinking of how to protect your car until things work out.

you have f//ked up any claim you had
YOU bought loads of stuff to try and remove it
How are you gonna prove NOW that they caused it?
Besides - Not sure I believe your story
you have a brand new car costing many thousands and it gets stained
what do YOU do about it?
1) do you take it to a VW dealer to find if it can be removed, and if so how much? - no you dont
2) do you take it to a specialist body shop to ask their advice? - no you dont
you go right ahead, buy loads of "expensive stuff" and try to do it yourself
for all anybody knows NOW- it could have been easy to remove IF you used the right stuff, but thats not possible NOW cos of the stuff YOU have used
only an idiot would not have done 1) and 2) before trying to do it themselves on a new car.
Last thing
I used to live in an area of very hard water
never had any problem using it to wash down a car or from sprinklers
(However twice found my car covered with red sand (the news said the sand was blown in by unusual air currents from the sahara desert)

Sprinkles? What kind of sprinkles? Donut sprinkles?
Tell your neighbors that donuts are for eating, not for leaving on other people's cars.

His home-owners insurance will pay for #1.Rubbing out the hard water spots by the dealer or best body-shop or #2. Re-painting. If he has no home owners insurance your automotive comprehensive insurance will.
All new cars made in the USA now use WATER BASE PAINT on their cars which means a professional should take care of the hard water spots.
