Google to remove apps by 2018 - wtf?

I saw this computerworld article:

http://www.computerworld.com/article/3109895/appli...

Google is going to close down the Chrome store and start removing apps from Chrome.

I use several apps in Chrome almost daily. I may have to switch to FireFox. Has anybody tried the new Maxthon MX5 browser?

Apps were one of the great things about Chrome. Does anybody have a source for stand-alone apps for Windows?

The apps they're removing are not the apps you're probably thinking. Extensions are remaining intact and if what you use doesn't already have a web app then it's not worth using in the first place. Google is shutting down hosted and packaged apps because the vast majority of users didn't use them. The apps generally were just web apps anyway so it's not that hard to flip those to web apps from Chrome apps.
