what does a negative coliform test in potable water means?

    negative in an analysis means that none was detected. You would not want coliform bacteria in your drinking water (comes from animal waste or sewage), so negative is a good thing.

    no coliform was found in the analysis; if coliform was found the water would not be suitable for drinking, cooking, etc

    It means it was likely NOT contaminated by animal or human waste.
