Translate "Alla fronti" in this context?
This is from a 1943 letter, discussing translating a detective story with some racy parts (for the forties) so that the books could be sold to monks who might be offended otherwise:
"So he went through the English texts, and whenever, for instance, he read: "He gave her a kiss," he would insert “Alla fronti".
Google translate says "alla fronti" means "the fronts"... which makes no sense in this context. It might be that the Italian is transcribed incorrectly, or there is a spelling error... so what does it mean here - or what similar phrase is probably the right one?

The author of the text probably didn't know a lot of Italian himself, cause "Alla fronti" looks like something randomly popped out from Google Translate. That being said, from the context it's surely understandable that he meant "Sulla fronte", which means (as Fritz correctly pointed out already) "on the forehead".

Yeah, that Google translate sure is useful, ain't it?
"Alla fronti" means "on the forehead." Apparently the translator thought that a kiss on the forehead was less sexually charged than just a "kiss" (presumably on the lips).
