Has religion caused more harm than good?

I know that religion is a controversial subject and some people like me embrace it. Others see it as a plague. I'm a Catholic Christian and I did some research on the crusades. I think what the Christian soldiers did was wrong. Killing non Christians. Jesus never supported violence and hatred. He suggested love our enemies and pray for them

Yes. In my opinion although it's generally the religious fanatics who cause trouble. But over the years, religion has played a huge part in what has gone on from Protestants v. Roman Catholics, to Jews v. Arabs, to Muslims v. everybody, including the various Muslim sects. I'm not sure that without religion things would have been significantly better, humans being humans, but for sure, much can be blamed on religion that's out of control.

    Biblical wars.

    Crusades.

    Dark ages.

    Reformation.

Stalin was raised a Catholic and controlled the Russian Orthodox Church – in the top ten of Christian denominations. Russia has always been Christian which is why St Basil’s Cathedral is at the heart of the Kremlin!

WWII - Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord. - Adolf Hitler

My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter.

    - Adolf Hitler

As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people. - Adolf Hitler

George W Bush started FIVE wars in less than eight years stating each time that it was his "God Given Duty” and in 2001 even called it a Crusade!

Not his duty to the electors!

    Not his duty to America!

Just his duty to keep slaughtering heathens for his god!

Look at all the terrible intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia and persecution posted by Christians towards others!

    Yes, by a huge margin.

All one needs is look at history, any history from any time, to see that clearly.

There has never been a concept developed by men that has issued as much destructive power upon humanity as the concept of a hateful and violent god.

For reasons beyond comprehension by sane people, death cults like christianity abound still ion modern times.

Obviously. Millions of people have died in history because of religion in one form or another. Not just because of Christianity but other religions too. However, I think that human nature is inherently violent and bloodthirsty in a lot of cases so if people didn't kill in the name of religion they'd find some other excuse.

The intent behind the religion causes healing, inclusion and hope.

Humans religious flesh has caused the harm

Its a battle between everyones own flesh and spirit. And the battle will consume your entire life.

Without God, we'd have only the Rule of Man, where the law changes at the whim of the powerful.

That Rule of Man situation looks like Somalia or Syria lately. The Khmer Rouge. Law as the plaything of those in power.

But, with the Rule of Law, where the Law was superior to all men, always, because it is from God, then civilization was able to progress.

    And here we are.

You might want to check history, and find out that the crusades were a response to 400 years of muslim attacking, conquering, and killing Christians, and a constant enslavement of every Christian they could find. The fact that those who went on the Crusades were not perfect, isn't even a drop in the bucket to muslim actions 616 A.. to 1571 A.D., including the siege of Rome itself in the 8th century, and the destruction of the tombs of St. Peter and St. Paul. Please read real history, not the propaganda the DNC feeds you.

It's impossible to say. There is no list of every event that has ever happened and whether they are rated either bad or good.

Secondly, what is bad for one may be considered good to another.

As a non-Catholic: You are right. But every coin has to sides.

Look at it this way: The Catholic Church is the biggest non-governmental healthcare provider of the world.

Also if you are a Catholic, then you probably think that directing someone to Jesus is the best thing that can happen to them by the way...
