The dry food myth (good for cats and good for the teeth) continues. Vets who have actually continued their education post-graduation, or have recently graduated from vet school now recommend an all canned diet for their cats. Dry food does NOT clean the teeth any more than eating hard pretzels cleans ours. A cat's teeth are designed for ripping meat off the bone and have no flat surfaces for chewing. The particles shatter, stick to the gum line, and cause the dental disease they are supposed to prevent. Here is another good article written by a vet who has actually researched feline nutrition: http://www.catinfo.org/ Read the section titled "but my cat does fine on dry food". Haven't fed dry here for years.

For every person who tells you to avoid kibble because it s unhealthy, you ll find another person who will say that they fed their beloved feline dry food every day for 20 years with no ill effects.
Every cat is different and has different eating habits and different levels of physical activity. My cat loves kibble, so I give her the most nutritious kibble (and wet food) that I can afford. There are plenty of dry food recipes out there that won t cause you to lose your shirt financially.

I feed my cat dry food because its what she will eat. She is very picky and does not like the texture of wet food. I have found a good quality food that she is willing to eat, and that gets her all of the nutrients she needs, so I'm not worried about her nutrition. I can understand crap quality foods, like meow mix, not giving proper nutrition, but with higher quality foods you shouldn't worry about that.
Many say wet food is better because it helps the cat stay hydrated.
My vet likes that I feed dry food because its better for my cat's teeth. I also refill her water bowls once a day, and have many bowls around the house to be sure that she does not get dehydrated. I have tried a fountain, but it was loud and broke quickly.

They may not get enough meat protein. Cats are carnivores, they eat meat. Dogs, like people, are omnivores, they'll survive on anything.
