In the Bible, several people lied, and were still blessed by God. I thought the Bible condemned lying. Could someone explain?

King David was an adulterer, a conspirator, and a murderer, yet God knew that David's heart was always seeking God. He had a heart after God. All sin is condemned by God. But God has made a way for forgiveness and repentance. David regretted his sin, and through a series of events, found forgiveness. Jacob in the Bible was the father to the 12 Tribes of Israel, but had not led a perfect life. Always, God's plans for us will prevail. There are many "colorful" characters in the Bible, and God has ways of bringing His plans for us to pass, in spite of our imperfect lives. This is evidence of God's mercy and grace.

All people blessed by God are still sinners. That doesn't mean God condones sinning.

Of those who were blessed, none were blessed because of lying.

Yeah it's a weird concept. The legalists of Christianity try to make this sound like a melodrama, meaning "God only does good for good people, and only bad for bad people." But God CAN see the wrong of those people he chose to be at peace with. It's just whether he wants to or not. I get into a lot of intellectual fights when I bring up God's choice. Even with Christians. It's like their whole ideology falls apart if I add God's choice to the mix.

  • You have to read why they lied to find out why they were blessed.

I think of a classic one, with Jacob and his brother Esau. Jacob was encouraged by his mother to fake his identity and pretend to be his brother so he would receive the blessing instead. The reason for this, was because the wrong brother was favoured by the father and so, would receive the blessing, where it should have been Jacob and so, it was showing a zeal for God in achieving this result.

Now to one that was not blessed. I, sadly have forgotten the names, but the Israelites were told to not save anything when they raided a land and yet, a family allowed their eyes to become greedy and they saved choicest things and coins and hid them and so, they lost their lives, because of their greed and sheer disobience.

So, when a lie is deliberate with a cruel intent, then that is condemned, but when it is to presevere lives and to promote goodness that is blessed.

He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

You can say that of all of us, couldn't you. Of course. We all sin and we are all blessed. The blessings are inducements to stop whatever evil behavior we still have.

    Luke 15:7

I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous ones who have no need of repentance.

Christians have no problem with lying unless someone else is doing it.

They are living lies, they have no choice, if they remain christians,.

They insist they have all the answers, but can not provide even the simplest ones. the easy questions stump them. the tough ones they totally ignore.
