Christians, have you ever seen or experienced anything that shook your faith, brought you close to wondering whether you had got it wrong?
And not just relative to the existence of God, but also relative to other religions or other denominations of Christianity. For example, did anything ever make you wonder, even for a second, whether JWism or Mormonism or Catholicism or Protestantism or Islam (etc, etc) is right?
And I don't mean an experience that made you mad at God. I mean something that really made you wonder, or got you close to wondering, whether you had got it all wrong. Thanks for your time.

Yes.
After I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior, the realization came to me that this was serious stuff. So about 5 minutes later I asked myself out loud, "what have you committed to? what is you don't like what happens now that Christ is within you?"
That was 21 years ago. Until I saw your question I had never again asked myself that question.
I am sitting here now crying tears of happiness and gratitude to God that I know Him.
Sometimes God overwhelms us.

I will tell you a little story: when the conquistadors arrived in the "new world" the natives did not see their boats in the bay.
Why ? Because these boats were bigger than the ones they could conceive. Boats that big, it just was not possible. Then their brain has cleared the information or chose to ignore it. It was not conceivable for them, so it did not exist.
One can find this kind of reaction called denial of reality (which is a psychological defense mechanism) when someone is confronted with an experience that demonstrates or imposes something that is too hard for him to admit. Contrary to his convictions or his psyche.
To admit, when one is a fervent believer, that another -who does not share this belief- may be right, is terribly difficult. Because it implies "I may be wrong".
Now one of the very concrete things that religion gives is the absolute conviction of being right. Sometimes the faith wavers, sometimes it finally extinguish, but sometimes they enter into denial, and it is impossible to make them admit anything but what they already adhere to. This is one of the reasons why it takes about 6 to 7 years to completely remove someone from a sect. Indoctrination is very deeply entrenched in their psyche.

When you question things, then you had better study to know the answer, not just wonder. If you continue without finding the answer, then you will fall for anything. The bible, which has been so validated by objective science it is no longer up for debate, can answer any question you may have. So you have the responsibility to find it.

Yeah, a few things I didn't understand shook me a few times. But I never went apostate.

In 2003 Jesus came through the wall of my house and confronted me face-to-face.
I HAVE SEEN OUR LORD.
Are you listening?!
I don't know 'why me' so don't ask.
The answer is NO. Nothing can shake my faith. He has done great things for me - even though I deserved to be killed.
An excerpt of that encounter and my subsequent epic salvation is on my profile.
Believe it or not; that's up to you.

I was psychotic at one point, and I thought I was playing along with God on the radio, on my guitar. I also thought my friend was in league with Satan, although now, I just call the universe God, because energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form. In his trial for saying I am God, it was Jesus who brought up the verse you are gods, all of you, sons of the most high. They called themselves the chosen ones, yet they burned the bodies of their children in a real pit of fire kept alight with real sulfur and brimstone for working on a Saturday, not being a virgin on your wedding night, or not believing in that ridiculous corrupt evil God.
