Just a quick question NFL fans?
Why don't d line men instead of rushing all drop back and wait for RB's instead of rushing just drop back and wait.

That gives up yardage. On top of that, when you drop back you give the offense space. More space means more decisions and more yardage.

You're young or you wouldnt ask such a question.
The object of the game is to take the ball a certain number of yards, and score points while holding the opponent to a minimum number of yards and points.
Sitting back and waiting for the opponent to take what you are essentially giving up is incredibly silly!
It's 10 yards for a first down to keep the drive going and you think its a good idea to wait while the other team gets a head start without any interference whatsoever???
That would be really stupid.
I'm not trying to insult you. I just think it's a silly idea :)

That's one of the problems for the defence. They never know when the play is a run or pass. Moving forward in a controlled manner of expected running plays disrupts the route designed by the offence for the point of attack. If they guessed wrong and it's a pass play, they're already moving towards the QB.

How far back would you like them to drop? You realize there would still be O-Lineman following them to block them, right?
It's not easy to tackle a RB for a 1 yard gain if you've already dropped back 5 yards.
