I have a friend who is a high school government teacher. Should she show her students the inauguration in class tomorrow?
I think that what some people aren't hearing is that there are many teachers, whether Social Studies or not, that will NOT show this to their students because of the political stances of the teachers. I'm not here to make a judgement of those teachers but to get the opinions of other people.

It's an important historical event. In that light, yes, she should. I'm 61 years old, and this will be the first inauguration in my life that I will not watch. It's not just that my candidate lost; I've been through that before. I feel this is a dark day in American history. But, a government teacher should show it in an educational context. (I'm also a teacher; a school librarian. Luckily, this will happen during the lunch period, so I don't have the dilemma of having to show it. As an educator, I should. As a proud American, I don't want to.)

Why not? Regardless of someone's political position or individual opinions about Trump its a historic event, just like every previous inauguration.
For most of the students in her class this will probably be the first inauguration in their lifetime while they're old enough to understand or care about what's going on, and the last one before they're able to participate in the process by voting.

Yes, I am pretty sure every class will have it on unless they have a test or something. When I was still in school all of my classes had it on throughout the day. Science, English, Math, and some other classes I was taking. No matter who the new President will be it is very important to watch it. But also make sure you tell students to keep comments to themselves. In the end it is up to her to decide for sure if she will or not. But because she is a Government teacher that is very important to show it.

She should be able to figure out that for herself.
Most teachers have multiple classes all day long. And most are 50 minutes. Taping it and showing highlites from it the next day and having a classroom discussion would probloly be more of a benefit for her students

Absolutely. This is living history. She should first make it clear that there will be no partisan remarks made by the students.
