Is annihilation a punishment or a reward?

    The expression, "wishing one had never been born" is alluded to in scriptures. Literally that means annihilation is a relief or an award. It seems this is an exception to the normal way of being, though. Your question has an unclear, if plain, answer.

    It's an "eternal punishment", in that it is permanent.
