what political or economic reason do politicians have to not support alternative energy?

looking for honest responses, the more sources the better.
Every country running more and more alternative energy is not having any of the problems that republicans claim will happen.
In the US today, more people have found employment than with oil, gas and coal put together.

Besides the environmental benefits, the job benefits are also greater in that they are stable and will not fluctuate since the jobs are not based on supply and demand like that of coal, oil, and gas. 
So can anyone give a reason why coal, oil and gas is better when all evidence says it is not

In my personal opinion, it comes down to control over supply and demand coupled with the interests of the oil companies.

Wind and solar are INSANELY expensive.  Without $Billions of Taxpayer-provided subsidies and write-offs, they are totally impractical.
