if the Mexicans can't sell their goods in the US because they have to charge more to cover the import, chances are they won't have much business and their now operating factories will decrease, putting more people out of work there, and more trying to come to the US to find work

This action can effect many small businesses, but they will look to see if similar products can be purchased locally from US companies for a cheaper price. Ultimately the cost of those goods may increase and be passed onto the consumer. The object is to provide jobs for Americans.

  • They should just repeal NAFTA.

The best way to reduce Mexican immigration is to see that country succeed. Harming their ability to trade does not do this.

Just counting the days until impeachment proceedings start. Hopefully there won't be TOO much damage before then.

I realize that this is a double 'tax' on Americans for the wall. We have to foot the bill for the wall through our income tax and now will also be paying higher prices on their imported goods as well. So the cost to the American taxpayers just soared from 13B to 26B and counting.

It would definitely damage the US economy as a whole, Mexico is one of our largest trading partners. It would be destructive to Mexico since 80% of their stuff go to us. I think it will hurt small businesses but won't put most of them out of business. Back in high school, I had a friend whose dad owned a store. Most of the things he sold came from Mexico so it would definitely hurt him and his family. If they do put a high import tax on Mexican made goods, you can expect to see a surge in illegal immigration (people going to the US for better opportunities).
