Atheists and Theists. Do you agree with Pope Francis's latest actions?

In a meeting with indigenous leaders from the globe Pope Francis seemed to endorse the NoDAPL protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline in Standing Rock saying indigenous people should be given priority in activity on their land.

Earlier this year he wrote an open letter to President Obama along with Desmond Tutu and Jimmy asking for Leonard Peltier to be freed. Leonard Peltier is a Native American activist who's been in prison in the U.S for the last 40 years.

I agree with the Pope in this case.

Tribal lands, if that's what is at stake, are legally separate, autonomous states within the US, and Native Peoples should have the final say in what happens on their lands. As for Peltier, I've long advocated releasing him, as I think the case against him was deeply flawed.

Why doesn't the Pope give back all the land they have taken by force? Look at what the catholic church did to the people living in the 1700 & 1800 in what we call Mexico now, this including the native indians also.

The Pope does a lot of talking, but sometimes he doesn't really know the subject well of enough.

We live in a world were it's getting harder to turn a buck and keeping people working, if this Pipeline can be built environmentally safe why should people be ideologues for no reasonable purpose?

The only reason the DAPL is going through Native lands is because the original route was changed when nearby non_Native towns refused permission to build the pipeline anywhere near them.

Obviously it's okay to desecrate Native sites, violate treaties with Native peoples and pollute Native land and water if it allows a non-Native billionaire to get richer. Never mind that Trump himself is invested in the DAPL and stands to make his own profit by pushing through the unwanted pipeline. Rolls eyes

Not only will the DAPL create all of 35 permanent jobs but piplelines are basically unsafe and a dangerous source of pollution, Between Jan and Oct of 2016 alone, there were more than 220 significant pipeline leaks and spills in the US.

On December 5, another pipeline 150 miles from the DAPL campsite leaked 4,200 barrels of oil, 3,100 of which reached the nearby Ash Coulee Creek, a tributary of the Missouri River which is a major source of drinking water for the region. Luckily that leak was active for mere hours.

Here's just one of many lists of pipeline leaks :

Well, the Roman empire used to feed Christians to the lions, which was their laughing jokey joke way of killing them, for fun. Then the Roman empire started to fall, and they started to fear the Christians. Then they became the Christians, and the Christian empire took over the world in a bloodbath that lasted two thousand years. Nobody owns anything, and we should share it all fairly.

    The pope is a cuck.

Whites get screwed over by the government and large corporations all the time.

Almost always without any of the attention or histrionics given to the situation in North Dakota.
