Floor Joist?

The floor Joist in my basement on sitting on a metal beam and I need to sim them up a little higher to get the joist level. What should I use as sims? Mud Flap, Plywood, Wood or Metal?

    metal would be best

    Asphalt shingle scrap makes excellent shims. Can't rot; doesn't compress hardly at all; standard thickness is dang close to an eighth. Stack'em or shave it.
