Are u to mount a TV over a fireplace or not?

I've seen pictures of police doing this but idk if you suppose to. I have a fireplace now but there is no cable hookup for it over fireplace. On the left and right is a place to hook cable TV up! I have surround system so where will that go? What's standard size TV to put in living rm?

The other issue with mounting a tv above the fireplace mantle is that it is then WAY TOO HIGH! You will be looking way up at it when you are seated in the room. This can cause neck pain. TV's should be mounted at a height so that you are looking straight at it when seated.

It is just a dumb idea all around.

the tv must be used in a cool place ... higher temperature will reduce its lifetime.

If you don't intend to ever use your fireplace then you can mount it above there with no problem. Just run the cables down the chimney and drill a hole through to connect it up.
