Why's that in the Germany section? Maybe because Yahoo is unable to differentiate between Dutch and Deutsch?

But, to answer your question (I am Deutsch, not Dutch, but love Amsterdam): The Dutch did something the German government didn't have the guts to do, that is, reject Turkish members of parliament from holding speeches for their election campaign.

Of course Turkish people living abroad and having Turkish citizenship have a right to vote, but do Turkish politicians have the right to travel Europe and hold speeches anywhere they like? I do not agree with the right-wing turn Europe takes these days, and I do not agree with that Geert Wilders guy from Holland, but it's been a long-held tradition in Europe that foreign politicians can hold speeches, but only if invited by the head of state. Obama spoke twice in Berlin, no problem with that.

I'm currently not very proud of my country. The Dutch did a better job by not allowing foreigners to lead their election campaign on their soil. And what's it worth after all? Who these days doesn't have internet access and can watch campaign videos 24/7?

I couldn't care less if Turkey re-introduced dictatorship and the death penalty; that would finally kick them out of the status as a EU member applicant. Only NATO would have a problem, because their spy and attack plane bases in Turkey would be gone. I think that's a main reason why Mrs Merkel is so lenient towards Erdogan. We can't risk our bases there, there is no replacement.

Neither racist (I'm not aware that Turkish parlamentaries would be considered a race) nor discriminatory. Quite apart from the Turks violating their own laws, which would prohibit them form campaining in foreign countries (and which is entirely their own problem), the Netherlands simply execute their rights to decide what happens in their country.

There is no law, international, EU or otherwise, that would require the Netherlands to let foreign politicians campaign in their country. Erdogan threatening the Netherlands and other countries about this - and his Nazi comparisons - is way out of line. But since he has the turkish national media firmly under control (in 1933 that was called Gleichschaltung), he probably thinks that the (turkish) people will believe what he tells them.

Again with the racist nonsense. Turks are white, just like all the people in Europe. As for the Dutch government. good for them. Turkey is being turned into a religious theocracy by crazy Erdogan, he should keep his politics at home.

It's not racist behaviour on the part of the Dutch government, it's merely the Dutch government putting its collective foot down and telling Erdogan that the actions of HIS government are not appreciated.

Erdogan is the trouble-maker here, don't be fooled. Too many ordinary Turks are being drawn into this by nature of their nationality, which is a pity because they don't deserve to be lampooned for the actions of their government.

As for Turkey not joining the EU, quite a lot of Turks DON'T WANT TO join. Erdogan only wants to join because he feels that he can turn over Ataturk's police of secularism, and force women to cover themselves again. He really should get out and meet more of his own female citizens - Turkish women are tough, they have to be.

    No.

It is the law that outsiders cannot campaign in the Netherlands. It is not aimed just at the Turks but all foreign nations.

The racist behaviour is by the Turks. They are turning it into a race issue and are fueling hate as a result.

Turkey is a being turned into a dictatorship. To even suggest the Dutch are racist is hilarious. The Turks are just mad that they didn't get to join the EU.
