As officially recognized, there are 8 planets: Mercury; Venus; Earth; Mars; Jupiter; Saturn; Uranus; and Neptune. A hypothetical Planet Nine may exist as shown by gravitational effects on orbits of some small solar system bodies, although it has yet to be observed.
There are five officially recognized dwarf planets; Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris, although many more do exist.
