I'm trying to calculate my 2017 estimated taxes. What am I supposed to enter on line 13b of the estimated tax worksheet?

I'm self-employed with one dependent...my disabled sister. I've already filed my 2016 taxes and qualified for an EIC of roughly $2k.

For line 13b should I enter -0- or my 2016 EIC? The instructions are not clear on this.

If you expect your 2017 income to be similar to 2016 just use the 2016 number. If you think that it will differ significantly, use IRS Pub 596 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p596.pdf to estimate your EIC. This is the 2016 version but the 2017 numbers will be close enough for estimate purposes.

If you expect 2017 to be pretty much the same as 2016 just take your 2016 number and pay that.

What kind of disability money does your sister receive, if any?

    If receiving SSI:

If so, does the SSA know that you are supporting her? If they don't know about you paying, they need to. SSI is for people who are limited income or limited resources. What this means if someone else can't be supporting her and she receiving SSI too (unless the person providing the support is limited income also).

    If SSDI:

Are you providing 50% or more of her support. If not, she is not a dependent.

    To answer your specific question:

Line 13B = you would enter your anticipated 2017 EIC, if any.
