Could Trump solidify his standing as one of the greatest US Presidents ever by doing one simple thing?

Throwing the insurance companies out of being the primary health coverage companies.

Begin a phased in Medicare for all single payer health coverage.

Allow insurance companies to sell secondary policies to cover non-basic items (private hospital rooms, elective surgeries, etc.).

Sounds great to me. Why the hell do insurance CEO's need to make $15m-30M salaries. Especially when it's govt mandated there's no reason for it.

Possibly, but it would have to be VERY limited to not bust the budget. I would suggest using insurance for what it was MEANT to do. Insuring against catastrophe.

Every time you have insurance cover something like $50/month birth control pill, you set up so much paperwork and overhead that the pills now cost $150/ month. So now you get the pill for $20/ month and the insurance company and/or gov't has to pick up the $130 which either comes out of your taxes or your premiums. You did not get a discount, you are just paying in another way.

Set up a plan for high deductible insurance covering only health catastrophes and then a heath savings plan. If people have to watch their own budget for their own money they will make better choices, like choosing the generic over the name-brand when there is minimal difference.

Why would anyone who knows about how the single pay, government run VA system works - want the government running all of health care. And BTW, Medicare does not cover things like maternity and pediatric care so "Medicare for all" would be a lot more expensive than private care is.

Where did you get the stupid idea that government should be in the business of providing free or discounted health care?

Where did you get the stupid idea that government is some kind of magical economising device.

    Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Secondary policies won't work due to death spiral. Here's why. Healthy people obviously won't buy such secondary policy, so you will only have sick people who need hospital care buying it. When that happens, insurance will have to charge extremely high premium since furthermore causes only people who really need hospital care buying insurance, which then causes insurance companies to charge even higher premiums!

Insurance works because it includes healthy and unhealthy people. An insurance policy that has 100% redemption rate is a losing business.

pls read the "takings" part of the Constitution and then find the estimated $800 billion that would cost. China, however, refuses to buy more US debt.

No, if universal health insurance was popular Obama would have passed it.
