Your daughter Madison but if you name your son Elizabeth everyone would freak.

    The difference is sexism. Masculinity is considered something good and femininity is considered something bad.

    But I see what you're saying with the whole Elizabeth thing. It's hypocrisy

    Its usually easier for a girl to be boyish than for a boy to be girlish.

    While the name Madison means son of Madi, it has been accepted as feminine. People are more careful when giving their son a name. Most make sure that he has a masculine name. I misunderstood the name Francis as being feminine one day. I insulted the young man by assuming that it would be a ladies name. Men are easily offended by making any mistake concerning their gender.

    People view using names like Madison as empowering for a girl. Naming a boy Elizabeth is emasculating.
