Shortcomings In his reasoning and thinking abilities and not because he is stubborn and unwilling to accept the religion, will that person go to hell.
For example, suppose you teach Science o maths in school. Although the kids are willing to learn, some of the kids won't be able to make sense of some the theories you are teaching them and some will grap the idea fast.

Yes that person will go to hell in afterlife because not all aspects of religion can be accepted by some of theories such as about ghaib te existence of Allah,heaven and hell etc.It can be accepted by strong faith or iman

He will go to heaven , even if he choose other religion too . God creates different religions to serve our different degrees of consciousness , yet all religions are just different ways to God .

If God had willed, He would have made you one nation ( into one religion ) ; but He wanted to see who are the more pious ones among you. Compete with each other in righteousness. Then you help him with his shortcomings
If a group of kids don't understand a scientific theory then the teacher explains it to them so that they can understand it..
Which is what you would do with an individual who has shortcomings with religion. Explain and clear up any misconceptions.
