If you manage to get a deal with a traditional publishing company, submitting the book to bookshops is the company's responsibility.
If you self-publish, your book will be on sale in various online bookshops. Bricks-and-mortar bookshops generally aren't interested in self-published books, unless the book has sold by the truckload or (perhaps) the bookshop is a small local one.
