hope that Trump will actually accomplish something. I think the hopes are misplaced -- the Senate Dims are going to oppose anything he tries to do

It was on that route because of Obama.

The better question would how can the DOW skyrocket from 8k to over 18k in 8 years

Because this administration is not hostile to the free market and business. This administration is not a parasite on the economy, but a symbiotic one.

Source(s): Own and operate two small businesses. Our long, national nightmare is finally over.

Corporate profits of some DOW companies are at an all time high. It does not mean that the economy is doing great. Profits are high partly because wages are low and partly because of overseas manufacturing. Apple just recorded record profits. The economy is still growing but the growth is slowing because Chrysler, Ford and GM all recorded declines in sales averaging about 10 percent.GM was wrost with a 15% drop in car sales. Trump inherited a robust economy, but he is doing things to screw things up, such as pulling out of trade deals, and limiting the hiring of foreign engineers. His cutting of the government work force creates more unemployment, and people will have less to spend, further slowing the economy. Some retailers such as jewelry stores are noticing that middle class people are not spending as freely as they were last year.

another reason for the stock market rise is the anticipation of a tax cut for corporations. Trump may have trouble passing a tax cut that will balloon the deficit. Dems may threaten a government shutdown if Trump wants to ram through a budget that cuts domestic spending in order to cut taxes on the rich. Stock market may crash if a tax cut fails.
