My parents are really sad that I am leaving them. What are some nice gestures I can do for them before I go?

maybe you should go to the pet store and get them a nice puppy, it will keep them from getting lonely while youre gone

Talk to them and say that you'll be fine and you have to do this for your sake, and hug them before you leave. Tell them you're sure to visit them on the holidays. If you want you can write to them while you are in college or send them care packs to ensure you're ok. If you can afford it, take them for dinner or cook it yourself.
