Am I obligated to disclose my Emotional Support Animal?
My apartment does not have a no pets policy and they know I have a dog. My dog pays a pet rent and deposit. However, do I have to disclose that he is my ESA? I don't want to face discrimination and decided not to disclose that he is my ESA since I'm allowed a dog.

By law, ESA are allowed in non pet housing, contrary to popular belief on this site, ESA's are REAL and are LEGAL. It's amazing how many people here are quick to hate on them.
I have anxiety myself, and I legally have a ESA, she isn't allowed everywhere, like restaurants (but then I don't like going out to eat anyway) but legally, you are allowed an ESA in non pet homes.

What you have, plain & simple is a pet. "Emotional Support Animal" is just a pet, it is not a service dog.

no, you don't need to say that it's an esa if they already allow pets. if they didn't allow pets, then you would have to say that it's an esa and with a doctor's note, they would have to let you live their anyway as if you didn't have a dog. while it's true that esa are not service animals, they do have a few rights that normal pets don't have, such as living in places that wouldn't normally allow pets.

ESA's are just PETS so your dog doesn't have any rights like a Service Animal.
It's up to what the LANDLORD requires as to whether you tell them you have a pet or not. In most cases the pet is listed on your lease and being a bogus "ESA" that you don't REALLY need doesn't make any freaking difference.

They allow pets and no one with any brains buys that "emotional support" bull ****, so no worries.

Its only a pet. If pets are not allowed then the ESA is not allowed. If a LL doesn't allow the breed or the dog is over the weight limit or simply not allowed then its NOT discrimination. Its a pet. Nothing more.

You don't need the letter for an ESA. You are allowed to have pets. It is only good if you live in housing that doesn't allow pets. Your letter is worthless & not needed. An ESA letter from your Psychiatrist is ONLY to allow a dog when pets are not allowed. That is the only reason to get an ESA letter from your Psychiatrist. You don't need it.

if you paid the deposit and pet rent, what does it matter? An ESA is just a pet anyways, and not a service animal.. so even if you did disclose it, NOtHING would be changed.
