Unless you actually logged in to the router's configuration settings and changed them, or you pressed the router's factory reset button (only do this as a very last resort) then I suspect your WiFi is still working properly. WiFi is simply and alternative interface to Ethernet for connecting devices to the router. It is more likely that the WiFi is working but you have lost the Internet connection.
Assuming you have not done a factory reset on the router, then the first step is to reverse the steps you have already taken and restore the network to the way it was, including plugging all cables back into their original sockets. If you have done a factory reset then you may have erased certain critical settings in the router that will need to be configured again.
There are two main types of wireless router that are used in most homes. One type has the connection from the ISP connecting directly to the router. In these routers, the ISP connection will either connect through a round coaxial connector, often using a screw end on the cable to secure it to the socket on the router, or through a small US styled phone connector. These connectors are both different from Ethernet connectors so they cannot be accidentally plugged in incorrectly. These routers have an integrated modem function that converts signals between the analogue signals transmitted over the connection to the ISP and the digital signals used by the router and your computers, games consoles, etc.
A few of these routers might possibly accept a fibre optic connection but I have never seen one.
The other type of router does not have an integrated modem, and relies on a separate modem box that connects to the incoming ISP connection and provides an Ethernet port to connect to the router. I suspect you possibly have this type of router, and in your attempts to connect your Xbox, the modem is no longer properly connected to the router.
Of this second type of home router, most have a total of five Ethernet ports. One port is designated as the Internet or WAN port, and this port MUST be connected to the modem. The other four ports (there may be more or less other ports) are for connecting computers, your Xbox and other Ethernet devices to the router. If you have a separate modem, make sure it is connected to the router's Internet/WAN port. If it is plugged into any other port you will not have any Internet connection.
There are a very few routers that have both an integrated modem and also an Internet/WAN Ethernet port for connecting to an external modem. These routers normally connect directly to the ISP connection using a US phone style connector, but can be used on other types of ISP connection by using an external modem rather than their own internal modem.
If you have pressed the factory reset button, then you might need to get assistance from the ISP to set the router up again. You may also have changed the WiFi network name and its encryption pass phrase. If these have changed and you do not know the previous ones, then you may have to reconnect all your WiFi devices again.
Normally, for connecting a device to a router by Ethernet, it is simply a case of plugging an Ethernet cable into both the router and the device and restarting the device. In some devices it might be necessary to tell it to use Ethernet rather than WiFi, but for Windows PCs, it should default automatically to Ethernet when it is connected providing the PC's Ethernet has not been disabled. I don't know what the default is on an Xbox.
I hope this helps you solve your problem.
