My car is making a noise I haven't heard before?

So recently I realized my car makes a groaning noise whenever I turn left or right my steering wheel. It's most noticeable when I reverse. I feel like it's the gears that are making noise. I also heard that it could be power steering fluid. What could it be?

Low or dirty power steering fluid, or something else with the steering.

What kind of car is it? That's the biggest question because not every car is the same and so they are subject to their own unique problems.

You heard it could be the fluid? Did that by chance make you want to check the fluid level?
