On the English site, When a question is asked in a specific language (not English), is it a violation to respond in that language?

I was reported for doing this in Russian. I thought it was appropriate. In real life, when I am able, I usually respond to questions in the language in which the question was asked. I consider that polite. When I am with others who do not speak the language, I usually explain what was said.

Update:

Please cite or quote the specific rule that refers to this. I cannot find it. I hear people say it is a violation, but I've never seen it.

Unfortunately, Yes, it a violation. I answered a question in English that was asked in French the other day. My French is so rusty that i would not even try to translate my answer into French. So far THAT answer has not been reported..

Everyone interprets the YA community guidelines and the terms of the Terms of Service contract differently. SOME people will report ANYTHING because they are desperate to increase their trust rating for accurate reporting. I had three years of French in high school and 3 semesters of French in college when there was 5 semester foreign language requirement. I placed out of the first two semesters. i could answer that particular question, so i did, but in English...

    Edit:

    HERE's the YA guidelines

"...Chatting or otherwise violating the question-and-answer format.

Yahoo Answers is a community of questions and answers, not a chat room. If a post is neither a question nor an answer, it doesn't belong here. If you prefer to have discussions or chat with others, please use one of Yahoo's other community services, such as Yahoo Groups. Read more..."

    Oh, Here it is

    "...Misusing Answers

Don't create multiple accounts to troll or otherwise violate these guidelines or the Yahoo Terms of Service. Don't post things that are incomprehensible or in the wrong language, and don't post the same question over and over again. The community depends on you to report abuse and rate questions and answers, so using product features such as report abuse and ratings to target others is not allowed. Read more..."

Not its not, there has been a few question asked in Spanish and I answer with my basic knowledge of Spanish, usually telling them this is a English speaking site and I have never had a violation
