Suggestions for a gaming setup?

I am looking for a good GPU and CPU combination which has good value for money. I was thinking about an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 CPU with a GeForce GTX 1050 GPU. I don't need the best gaming setup in the world, just something that can play games like GTA on medium settings. At the moment I have a PC with an AMD A6-6400K CPU and intergrated AMD Radeon 8470D graphics. I also have a laptop with an Intel Core i3 CPU with Intel HD 620 intergrated graphics. The laptop with the i3 can run games better than the PC with the AMD CPU. But I want to upgrade my PC so I can play AAA games.

The Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX 1050 isn't a great combination. You would get much better gaming performance out of a Ryzen 3 1300x or Ryzen 5 1400 and a GTX 1060 than you would out of your suggested combo.

The Ryzen 5 1600 is a great CPU and the extra cores are useful but they're not very useful for such a weak card.

Right now is a crummy time to build a PC because graphics cards and RAM is overpriced. I can't wait for Bitcoin to crash but there are too many idiots who believe in Hype and they have no understanding of how S&D actually works. So until they get scared off and run away, Bitcoin demand will trickle down to other Cryptocurrencies that can be mined with a GPU like Ethereum and Litecoin. RAM shoud start dropping in price here in 4 to 6 months.

You can punch in a build at pcpartpicker.com but I also encourage you to look at prebuilt boxes to see if you can match their prices. Several months ago it was possible to build a good tower for $550 but now it's an extra $100 for the same build.

Ryzen 1400 is good enough to run a 1060 6gb with no bottleneck and that is actually just about right. I think you can even run GTA V on high with that build. A Ryzen 1200 with 1050 ti would probably be the build you are looking for at 1080p instead but don't look forward to most of the major titles that may come out after mid 2018. You will likely struggle to maintain even around the average playable 30-45fps at low setting. A GTX 1050 will struggle to run just about any AAA titles at 1080p@60fps.

Do note CPU and GPU may not be the only thing you need to buy. You will most likely need new RAM and windows. Well, only need new copy of windows if the old PC has OEM license.

It would be smarter to get a cheaper CPU (either a Pentium G4560/G4600/G4620 or a Ryzen 3) and a better GPU (GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060 3GB, RX 470, or RX 570). You can reuse your current case and hard drive and depending on what you already have you might also be able to reuse your power supply. If you create a Microsoft account and link your Windows license to it, you can also transfer your Windows license without having to pay anything.

Well I don't know what gaming is as my era was the 70s and 80s. All I know is a computer is what I'm doing this on now as in '92 I started working at a place when emails first started and I worked on a computer until around '08
