Is the North Pole 6000 miles from the equator? And for any two points on the equator, is the shortest distance along the equator?

    It only looks flat if you are sitting at the lowest area of a broad plane.

    Thanks for the update: Your statement is correct only if the earth is essential spherical and, yes it is.(unless you calculate decent below the surface that shortens that distance by creating straight line between the two equatorial points. But that would be difficult to accomplish.)
