I had a someone complain about my dogs barking one night and had animal control leave a wellness note on my door.I have lived there ten yers?

I called them and they asked me how many dogs did i have which is three and the said am I running a puppy mill or and I a breeder. On bark complaint in ten years. Now are they gonna keep bugging me or try to get a warrant or something can they even do that with one complaint? I keep reading horror storys I only have 3. Or will they just bust the door down one day when I'm not home. I feel like that's extreme for them to ask me that unless it's normal. Just never had this happened. Any ideas would be great. And my dogs are taken care of better then me lol. Thanks

You didn't mention where you are or whether you are in the United States or any indication of your location at all. That would be helpful because in the United States most States have dog laws that pertain to their barking as being a nuisance according to noise ordinances. Look up the dog laws for where you are that pertains to their barking. That is why the complaint was investigated. If you leave your dogs out all night and you are a heavy sleeper and they are barking constantly for more than 10 minutes that is considered disturbing the peace in most areas, by law.

Bring them in at night. Don't let them bark constantly at nothing. If they start barking go check and see what they're barking at and silence them as soon as you can. They can be taken away from you if you don't control them. Especially if they're annoying your neighbors by keeping them up at night when they're trying to sleep.

I suggest that you be sensitive to the fact that your dogs barking may annoy your neighbors and try to keep the noise down. My little chi was getting barkier and barkier out of doors. At my old house I was in the country with no close neighbors so dog noise was no problem but we moved into the city a year ago.

I don’t know what she was getting heated up about but I would bring her in when she barked which was getting more frequent. Then one evening I fell asleep in my recliner while I was reading, the slider to the back yard open and didn’t have my hearing aids in. She barked for an hour at least. When I woke up I brought her in and we all went to bed. The next morning realized I had a call from my neighbor complaining about the barking.

I had already been looking at the citronella collars that spray the dog when they bark, in fact had been looking at them on line and had put one in my Chewy.com cart but hadn’t ordered it yet because it was $70. As soon as I got that call from my neighbor I ordered it. It fixed the problem right away.

Animal control is not going to break your door down. But is it your responsibility to not allow your dogs barking to disturb your neighbors.

    WHERE? This isn't International Law.

My neighbors also say their dogs never bark. They are correct. Their dogs never bark when THEY are home. Otherwise, bark, bark, bark.

Bring your dogs inside at night so they’re not barking and keeping neighbors up. Dogs left outside for the night are on edge and defensive, they’ll bark at everything. At the very least, consider building or buying a nice shed or decently sized dog house to put them in at night and make them feel safe. Some cities have limits on how many dogs you can keep, make sure you’re not going over that limit. I would call them back and ask them those questions. They’re the only ones that can answer accurately.

Okay...and did you have an actual question, as placing a question mark after a statement doesn't automatically make it a question.....

"can they even do that with one complaint?" Yes, they can....They can't enter private property unless someone invites them and doesn't need to be you, it could be anyone that has permission to be on your property, relative, baby sitter, gardener, care taker, etc. Otherwise they need to apply for a search warrant, signed by a judge, to enter.

    really it doesn't matter

So what if you've lived there 10 years? NOW your dog is being a nuisance or if it was being a nuisance all this time your poor neighbours just put up with it.

If your dogs are licensed in your town, you don't have more dogs than you should, you're taking care of them AND you stop leaving them outside to bark and annoy your neighbours then you have nothing to worry about. But you sound like an a$$ so I hope you get fined and/or your dogs taken away from you.

Stop your damn dogs from barking. Bring them in at night. I have no sympathy for you.

It doesn't matter how well your dogs are cared for. It is against the law for them to be a nuisance to others. Don't let your dogs bark and annoy the crap out of people.

People who don't have barking dogs don't get barking complaints. This is very, very simple.

ETA: "They never do." Obviously they do. You aren't home 24/7, right?
