Atheists, did you ever wonder, like me, "what if God is real after all?"?

I've never been an atheist but I personally know two atheists who discovered the reality of God - but neither of them even thought "What if God is real after all?" No! Neither of them were even thinking about God, or looking at a Bible, or going to church when God suddenly broke through into their realization.

They were both just every-day, well educated, sensible British people who were happy with their chosen path of atheism. Well, I say 'chosen', but the young woman had been brought up in an atheistic household with no religious 'input' into her life, so perhaps she was moulded that way and had no choice but to become an atheist. Let's face it, the atheists on here accuse most Christians of having no real choice but to end up Christians because they were brought up with encouragement to be Christians. So, what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Anyway, back to this university educated young lady. She started off in her chosen career, not ever thinking about God or religion, until one day when an incredible thing happened. Out of the blue, God made Himself known to her - in her thinking. He 'broke through' with a revelation of Himself that staggered her to her core. She was entirely compis mentis when it happened - she had not been on drugs. It was just a quiet but powerful intellectual awareness that neither she nor any other person had initiated. She became a Christian. She knew God was also calling her to change her career and she obeyed that direction. It wasn't what she wanted to do, but she retrained, started practicing. Oh, and she married an Episcopal priest. I first met her some years down the road when she shared my office one day per week. Lovely young woman.

The other person wasn't brought up atheistic, but he arrived at that conclusion, through his own powers of reasoning, as a young man. The same thing happened to him a few years later. Without warning, God just broke through into his realization. It was an overwhelming experience, which impacted him with the love of God in Christ. His heart melted. All resistance was broken. God was real, and God was Love! He became a Christian and although his wife wasn't, he has been a church elder for many years and works with a Christian charity that supports the weaker members of society. It's a huge organization, by the way, punching well above its weight in social services. He was my boss when I joined that group. A first class boss.

So, I just mention those two true-life experiences of former atheists to show how, when God takes the initiative, things happen. I'm not unduly concerned about atheists for that reason. If their hearts are sincere before God, and He calls them to faith, they will come to faith. The rest can just bluster on, or rage and rant on this site. It is to no avail. They are only convincing themselves.
