Roommate obligated to pay utilities for the month she was living here?
My roommate just moved out and into a place with her boyfriend who, was also living with us uninvited. She was going to pay the utilities, until she had heard something ridiculous from somebody about our other Roomate and is now refusing to pay the utilities for this last month that she and her boyfriend were here for. She has blocked us from talking to her in any form. She has left me and the other roommates to pay for her and her boyfriends side of the utilities. Is there anything we could do to make her to pay? It’s incredibly frustrating because her and her boyfriend were there more than any of us and constantly left lights on and took hour long showers. One of our roommates was gone for a month and she went off on them for asking if she still had to pay, but since it’s her, she thinks she doesn’t have to? I just don’t think it’s right. Please help

You will have to sue them in small claims court. But it will be up to you to actually collect the money if you win your case.

This is what small claims court is for. No lawyers, just both of you telling your sides to a magistrate.

Small claims court is how you can force her to pay. The question is whether the amount is worth your time or not.

Truth is- you can file a claim in small claim court but she may refuse to pay any judgement- you may can put a lien on a real property she owns (if she ever owns one). But if she is willing to fight this strong enough then she can make it very cost inefficient to attempt to get her to pay.
