Ubuntu 16.04 Unity launcher, taskbar, and dash are missing?
I have a custom built computer and I have used windows 10 on it for a while. I installed Ubuntu because I was tired of windows, and its been great, minus a few bugs here and there. But one time I turned my computer back on and now when I log into my account the Launcher and taskbar are missing, and if you open an application the borders are gone. Also the only way I can get into the terminal is by right clicking on my desktop, the shortcut ctrl+alt+t doesn't work. I am not super experienced with linux or coding so any help is greatly appreciated.

Linux is great, but troubleshooting it can be a pain.
First step is to always Google it. Turns out someone with the exact same symptoms got an answer here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/17381/unity-doesnt...
Open a terminal and type in "sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager".
Once it installs, type in "DISPLAY=:0 ccsm &".
This will open up the CompizConfig Settings Manager. Search for the Unity plugin and enable it.

Why don't you try Linux Mint 18.3 instead he will find Linux Mint much more like something you recognize then Ubuntu Linux Mint is Ubuntu under the hood but it is made in such a way that you will recognize it and all its controls and you can theme it anyway you could possibly imagine
